tougen village( )

Fresh vegetable store, restaurant, pastry shop. Considering the synergy and showiness of the stores, which have slightly different customer bases and business hours, the four buildings are arranged like a village surrounding a square. We hoped that by keeping the eaves of the buildings low, varying the form of the roofs that form the outline of the village, abstracting the buildings in white to highlight the greenery of the square, and directing the space with skylights, all of these things common to each building, a connection like renga (a renga poem) would be created in Tougen Village.
In the restaurant, the traditional structure of a thatched roof house is reproduced with old materials, contrasting with the neutral white space. The ridgepole, sasu log grouping, and tsumugi (railings) illuminated by the light of the skylight are distant landscapes that have been passed down in the Izumo region.
In the pastry shop, a single old piece of wood inherits the renga poem, and the small sunlight filtering through the trees becomes a sundial that records the movement of the sun on the wall.
The Tougen Market is a column-free space with truss beams. Traditional construction methods are used in the truss beam connections.
