With an ancient theme, Shoen has previously used traditional materials such as earth, bamboo and rusted iron sheets with acrylic to create new spaces.
This time, the adjacent room with a veranda was made into a large hall, and the entrance hall was made into a small room. To reduce costs, the existing exterior fittings were left as they were, and the opening height of the new shoji screens was kept low to give the space a calm scale.
The small room has white walls set against a clay background, creating a space with a sense of tension with delicate details.
