A new community space for dog lovers was created by utilizing the large 3300m2 site and the 300m2 old house.
The old house had been vacant for a long time, and the roof tiles had fallen off, and it was covered in a dense forest of bamboo and woodland, but the large site with good access to the road was essential for a dog run. The owner himself used heavy machinery to cut down the trees and roots, renovated the old house into a restaurant, a cafe for dogs, and accommodation for dogs, and converted the large farmland into a dog run, which has become a lively new place for interaction.
The restaurant took advantage of the large site to create gardens on the north and south, creating an open space where the gardens are connected by a dirt floor. The new finishing materials have a lower brightness to highlight the existing earthen walls and old wood, changing the expression of the new and old materials.
The store’s selling points are pizza baked in a stone oven and a 4m long handmade table. The 4m long table is made from a single plank of ash wood and was made by Mr. Hino of Bench Work Tatenui. Natural materials are used to add flavor to both the food and the architecture.
