diy old house( Izumo)
2013
Comment
This old house built in the Meiji period has been renovated to be more convenient with the times. The dirt floor was replaced with a wooden floor, a system kitchen was installed, and a ceiling was installed under the smoke-ventilating roof.
The requirements included removing the ceiling to expose the beams, restoring the dirt floor, separating the main house from the storehouse to restore ventilation and lighting, improving the building’s insulation, earthquake resistance, airtightness, and other architectural features, and repairing damaged areas to improve the living environment.
As a measure to reduce construction costs, the client was asked to do the demolition work, exterior wall paneling work, interior construction work, rainwater drainage work, diatomaceous earth painting work, and painting work DIY as the construction progressed, which reduced construction costs by about 30%.
The chipped pedestal and scratches on the main pillar were repaired with new materials. Old zelkova boards and new cedar boards. The conflict between old and new materials gives a sense of the time that the building has lived.
