“Make the entrance a little narrower!”
This was an unusual request for a gallery, but with the increasing number of tourists coming and going along Kamimon-dori street at Izumo Taisha Shrine, a filter was needed to select customers.
As a minimal architectural move that would not destroy the taste of the shop, we replaced one glass door and installed a steel display shelf behind the glass doors other than the entrance to block the view. The display shelf has slits for displaying works lower than eye level, allowing visitors to get a sneak peek inside the shop. This is a device that encourages people who do not resonate with the exhibits to pass by.
We installed small lights to illuminate the works, creating a small night view of Kamimon-dori street.
